McArthur Airport on Long Island: the age limit

The promise at Long Island McArthur Airport, located in Long Island, operating in the shadow of Manhattan, nearby La Guardia Airport and JFK International Airports, has always come in the form of new airline service that has tried to achieve unprofitable profitability and . Several finally failed low-cost and novice carriers have left little more than a fading imprint over the past half decade.

For example, Alaska-based PenAir, which seeks to replace the popular, daily Saab S-340 flights once operated by Business Express and later the American Eagle between Long Island and Boston, forged in July 2013 its own connection to two daily returns. the same 34-passenger turboprop. But bad load factors led to its cessation a year later.

“We were losing money,” according to David Hall, PenAir’s chief operating officer. “We just couldn’t make a stable operating profit. Unfortunately, it’s a business and that’s how it works.”

Another attempt was made by an inexpensive Allegiant Air board based in Las Vegas, which in December 2013 opened two weeklies there in Punta Gorda, Florida, as their winter sun set in the evening, they were stopped on May 26 next year and had to resume in December. They never were.

Another Islip entrant was Elite Airways. In 2016, founded by veterans of the airline, founded by the airline, wishing to create a higher quality airline that deviated from the spread of unnecessary redundancy, it was certified as an airline under Part 121 of the United States, which offered charter and scheduled services. transport professional and college sports teams, company executives, heads of state, the White House press office and VIP tour groups. Headquartered in Portland, Maine, but focusing on maintenance, crew training, sales and marketing in Melbourne, Florida, the first six years of its existence operated charter flights before moving to scheduled routes with a minor route system, including -Portland, Naples (Florida) -Newark, Naples-Portland, Vera Beach (Florida) -Newark, and Rockford (Illinois) -Fort Collins (Colorado). The Bombardier Region Jet fleet, consisting of 11 powerful resources, consisted of one CRJ-100, five CRJ-200 and five CRJ-700.

Looking for incentives such as lowering or increasing landing fees, missed airports with 50- and 70-seat planes, he intended to offer air connections of western birds between New England and Florida, more like the Northeast with its 727 “Yellowbirds” in the early 1970s before Delta acquired the carrier. Because of the airline’s veteran founders, who also sought to resurrect higher-quality flight services for full-fledged carriers of obsolete carriers, it bore a resemblance to the now-defunct KIWI Airways.

The elite advertised themselves as “Melbourne’s hometown airline”.

The catalyst service on Long Island MacArthur was a passenger request.

“The funny thing is: if it weren’t for the people who come from Long Island, we wouldn’t be here,” Elite Airways President John Pirsall said. “On our route we are now flying between Newark and Vera Beach … We had more people asking for Islip, Long Island than any other point we fly to.”

Twice a week, Friday and Sunday, in Portland, Maine; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Melbourne, Florida, which were charged entrance fees of $ 99.00, $ 139.00 and $ 149.00, began on June 17, 2016 amid the usually optimistic comments of Pearsall, who said he expects “demand” passengers will be strong for these new routes. ” and Islip Town CEO Angie Carpenter, who commented: “I am delighted that the city of Islip is partnering with Elite Airways. Adding Elite to the McArthur Airport family on Long Island offers both residents and those living in Nassau and Suffolk. the possibility of counties to travel to some of the most desirable holiday destinations along the east coast … “

The Portland route continued to Bar Harbor, and to Melbourne it is believed to have been extended to St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.

Because of Elite’s presence in Rockford, Illinois, he was also considering connecting Islip with an alternative destination in Chicago.

“We are announcing additional destinations as we become more and more familiar with the market,” Pearsall said.

Another route considered here was that in Newport News, Virginia, the inauguration is scheduled for March 13, 2017. But he was forced to postpone it due to pending an investigation into government funding of $ 3.55 million, designed to improve infrastructure that was allegedly used to secure a loan for a low-cost carrier.

Although the dispute did not involve the Elite itself, it was considered prudent to avoid the airport.

“The Peninsula Airport Commission has been informed that Elite Airways has decided to temporarily suspend service at Newport News / Williamsburg International Airport (in Newark) due to persistent negative and inaccurate headlines that prevent the introduction of this new property into our community.” “The Commission and Elite Airways have an excellent working relationship as well as support for each other. We look forward to a new launch date in the next few months. We feel confident that Elite will succeed in the market and that our Community will enjoy them. services “Elite Class”.

“It was difficult to postpone the start of service,” Pearsall said. “Newport News / Williamsburg International Airport has become a great partner for work. We believe in the market and want to provide this service. The maximum possible climate to start. Postponement of the start date will allow airlines and the airport to become more successful in launching a new air service to meet the needs of society ”.

It never was. Didn’t go with Rockford. And the existing Islip service, which is considered seasonal, was suspended between January 15 and February 16, 2017, before it was resumed and discontinued for the second time in late April. Although the second re-introduction was scheduled for July, it was never implemented.

Although the lifespan of these carriers was short, the National Airline did not even touch the land of Long Island.

Founded in 2008, Orlando operated Boeing 747-400BCF passenger and cargo flights as National Air Cargo, but on June 11, 2016, it was transferred to the public charter services of the Transport Department (DOT) of PC № 16-038, whose The flights were sold by FlyBranson Travel LLC dba (doing business as) Branson Air Express and operated by National Air Cargo Group, Inc., which itself conducts business as National Airlines. Its fleet, a pair of Rolls Royce 40,200 traction-pound RB.211 Boeing 757-200s, based on the -535E4, is tuned for 170 (26 first class and 144 coaches) and 184 (22 first class and 162 coaches) passengers, intended for a six itinerary covering Aguadilla, Puerto Rico; Islip, New York; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Sanford-Orlando, Florida; St. John’s, Newfoundland; and Windsor, Ontario.

“At National Airlines, we provide an expanded experience of traveling passengers miles by air,” he said. “Our uncompromising quality, uninterrupted service and unsurpassed agility distinguish us as one of the most elite passenger airlines on the market. We travel further, move faster and arrive on time with a dedicated commitment to safe work. From runway, national to airline world class.

“National is committed to caring for customers. We believe that our passengers are the most valuable cargo a plane can carry, and that is why we treat everyone as an elite global VIP. From the dedicated service of our air crew to the undeniable beauty of our aircraft, we will stop on the details. “

Two weekly departures to Aguadilla were scheduled as flight N8 273 on Monday and Friday and four to San Juan as flight N8 231 on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from Islip. Everyone had to leave at 9 p.m.

“The city of Islip is a wonderful and attractive community.” according to Edward Davidson, President and CEO of the National Academy, Long Island MacArthur Airport offers both excellent service and convenience to our customers. National airlines believe there is a demand for our unique brand of exclusive service at inclusive rates between and -Juan and Aguadilla. “.

“There is a vibrant Puerto Rican community in Islip and throughout the New York region,” he continued, “and we believe travelers will find our combination of convenient location and inclusive service very appealing.”

Although this would be the Caribbean’s first round-the-clock service from Long Island Airport, the lack of appropriate equipment prevented its opening, leading to a month-and-a-half delay and causing passengers to return.

“National has faced challenges in acquiring the very popular Boeing 757 aircraft,” Islip Mayor Angie Carpenter said in a statement. “Unfortunately, this prompted the national to postpone the June 1 launch from McArthur Airport on Long Island to Puerto Rico. However, the city remains very enthusiastic to greet the National Airline to our family from the airport.”

There was never an opportunity to do that.

The airport fared much better with the next carrier landing on the runways, an ultra-inexpensive, border-based Denver base. Announcing the termination of service in Orlando in May 2017, the airline, the operator of the Airbus A320, put itself in competition with the current Southwest to this destination and Florida as a whole, offering separate fares of $ 39.00, additional baggage fees, early boarding, drinks, snacks and return. Based on extended orders, this became the threshold for a significant Islip presence, which would entail more round-the-clock flights and further destinations than the Southwest itself and (then) the Elite had to offer.

With 21 cities, which he added to his 61, it was considered the first step in an expansion that would double its size over the next five years.

“Islip will be part of the largest expansion in Frontier history,” said Scott Fisher, the company’s senior director at a MacArthur press conference.

Because of the airport’s availability, lack of congestion, and La Guards reconstruction, which he also served, Fisher called it an “easy airport experience” in New York City’s otherwise competitive market. “It has become moral in terms of partnership,” he said.

“We thank you for reassuring us that we know this is truly an unused treasure,” Islip Town Governor Andy Carpenter told Fisher at a news conference. “It really will bring a huge amount of rewards for everyone.”

Touching in 0936 after entering the ferry from Orlando on August 16 and receiving a salute from a water cannon from MacArthur Fire-Rescue Airport, the single-class Frontier A320-200, designated Flight F9 1779, became the starting point, pushed back by the Gate in 1045. That evening will return as flight F9 1778 in 2155.

It became the first in a two-phase expansion in MacArthur, which began Oct. 5 in Fort Myers, Miami, New Orleans, Tama and West Palm Beach, and in Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and Minneapolis the following April 9. , 2018. Atlanta and Chicago were two airports that once served but later lost directions. They remained the two still most in demand.

However, because deregulation facilitated rapid entry and exit from markets, and very low fare carriers such as Frontier were necessarily forced to accept pins when revenue fell below expectations, much of its Islip route system was changed shortly after disappointing load factors. this.

The first place of liquidation, March 5, was New Orleans.

“We are constantly evaluating the performance of the route,” said Frontier spokesman Richard Oliver III. “Unfortunately, this capacity was better … redistributed elsewhere in our route network.”

Airport Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken repeated this reality.

“Unfortunately, one of the (border) ten routes – New Orleans – did not perform as expected, and therefore adjustments to the schedule are made so that the carrier continues to develop successfully in the market.”

Like the first in a series of falling dominoes, on April 8 she beat Miami and Fort Myers.

“They just didn’t live up to our expectations,” Oliver III said.

Two more dominoes fell on July 5, namely Detroit and Minneapolis.

“We haven’t yet seen the level of demand we need to see for routes,” said Daniel Schurz, vice president of commercial operations at Border.

Myrtle Beach and San Juan replaced the two original destinations, and Fort Myers, Miami and West Palm Beach were considered for recovery during the 2018-2019 winter season.

Despite the cancellations, Frontier remained committed to Islip, provided the load factor ensured adequate profitability.

“We are working with the airport and they have done a good job of promoting the services,” Schurz said.

Although the American Eagle and the Southwest remained longtime tenant anchors, they themselves made tiny adjustments. The first upgraded its 37-passenger de Havilland turboprop from Canada DHC-8-100 from the American concern Philadelphia to the 45-passenger Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft, which represents a 31 percent increase in power, and the second opened one stop, a single-seat service in Raleigh / Durham through Baltimore, which facilitates return business trips in one day.

McArthur on Long Island continued its constant search for airlines, and the airliners themselves continued to search for passengers and profitability in the shadow of New York airports, as evidenced by the latest round of entries and departures of carriers. However, despite the losses between 2011 and 2014, one of the largest in 2012 – $ 2 million, 2017 ended the balance of almost $ 3 million.

In the financial year from February 2017 to February 2018, 6,473 aircraft departures were recorded, an increase of 10.67 percent, 694 thousand arriving passengers, an increase of 17.28 percent and 697,000 departing passengers, which is 17.43 percent more, according to DOT statistics. The number of used wheels is more than doubled – from seven to 15.

Like American Airlines in the 1970s, Northeastern International in the 1980s, and Southwest in the 1990s, Frontier could serve as a catalyst for the airport’s next development cycle, provided it can identify markets that ensure its profitability and long-term presence.

Information on cheap air and hotels: a look at holiday offers and what they offer

Some people after the last minute and some want to plan ahead. Whatever category you belong to, it only takes a little patience and research to find cheap air and hotel packages. Travel websites have allowed the average ordinary traveler to choose their own adventure and book their own itinerary. The vacation package always has room for flexibility.

Each airline has several hotel partners, so there are many options if you want to combine airfare and hotel reservations. You may also want to consider adding a rental car. How does a three-day stay + a ticket to Punta Cana sound like? Does an international airline ticket + budget hotel stay in Barcelona sound? There is a great variety of packages to choose from.

Cheap air packages and hotels are sometimes (but not always) available at the last minute. If the hotel still has a bunch of rooms to fill the upcoming nights, this can greatly reduce the cost as an incentive for tourists to book. Same with many airlines. Airlines do not always repurchase. From time to time they do face the problem of inaccessible booking. If many people for any reason cancel their fare at the last minute, the airline will have nothing left but to offer them at a discount to book as many people as possible.

Vacation packages are often tailored to a particular theme, such as romantic getaways, outdoor entertainment, sports, family activities, LGBT-friendly trips, cruises, skiing and more. The giant resorts also have all-inclusive vacations. If you prefer to create your own itinerary, just follow the basic cheap air packages and hotels.

Get transportation for cheap air and hotel packages

Don’t forget about land transportation. Depending on your destination, you may not want to drive around everywhere. If car rental does not occur, make sure you have a hotel in your package that is close to the airport you will be flying to. If you want to rent a car, fares are usually cheaper in places outside the airport. Renting a car right at the airport is usually more expensive.

Make sure you don’t miss anything by reading the terms. Know what the cancellation policy looks like before booking. Consider buying cheap airline tickets and hotels on reputable travel discount sites that offer round-the-clock customer service. Sites that have a Plus membership should definitely be used because they offer reward programs.

Online discounts are some of the best and you can always count on travel sites to offer good customer service. Don’t forget to join membership programs so you can earn points. No matter what kind of vacation you are interested in, there are many cheap air and hotel packages to choose from.

A brief history of aviation – 1908 and beyond

This is the second part of the two-part description of aviation from its inception to the present day. This is a subjective view of several highlights of aviation over the centuries.

Glen Hammond Curtis, who was well known in the aviation industry until 1908, won the first American Scientific American Trophy for flying an airplane when he flew June 4 on June 15 at the June Bug in 1 min 42.5 seconds on July 4. , 1908. On August 28, 1910, Curtis won the first international speed competition, about 47 km / h. He also became the first American to develop and fly a seaplane – the first successful seaplane flight. was made by Henri Fabre of France on March 28, 1910.

Before the First World War, the design of the aircraft was greatly improved. Pushing biplanes (two-winged planes with an engine and a propeller behind the wing) replaced tractor biplanes (two-winged planes with an engine and wind in front of the wing). Monoplane designs were rare, and when World War I broke out, huge biplane bombers with two to four engines were developed. Airmail was also launched, although it lasted only a week. The first airmail, officially approved by the U.S. Postal Service, began on September 23, 1911, and the pilot (Earl Owington) carried the mail to his feet and tossed the bag overboard when it reached its destination. In 1911, the first transcontinental flight through the United States was performed by Colbright P. Rogers. His flight from New York to California took 3 days, 10 hours and 14 minutes, and was on a Wright plane.

During the First World Aviation a big step forward was made in the design and manufacture of aircraft. Important was the experience of pilots who flew on early fighter ships for air maneuvers required in dogfights. Von Richthofen, Rickenbecker and many others were so successful that they learned to fly airplanes.

In 1919-1926, Captain E.F. White made a nonstop flight from Chicago to New York (727 miles – 1170 km), and Lieutenant Oakley Kelly and Lieutenant John A. McCaddy made the first transcontinental non-stop flight from 2 to 3 May 1923. This flight was made from Roosevelt Field, Long Island to Rockwell Field, San Diego; and the first round-the-world flight was made from April 6 to September 28, 1924. Also in 1919, from June 14 to June 15, John William Alcac and Arthur Whitton Brown made the first endless transatlantic flight. hours to finish and they won the London Daily Mail prize of $ 50,000.

During these years, mail delivery also took a long time. In 1925, Congress passed the Kelly Air Mail Act, which allowed the Postal Department to contract with airlines. This made it possible to transport U.S. mail by air; after that in 1926 14 domestic postal companies were created.

On May 20, 1927, Charles A. Lindbergh flew into the “Spirit of St. Louis” from Roosevelt Field near the landing in New York City in Paris 33 hours later.

Pan American Airways was the largest operator of all international airlines operating before World War II. Pan American served 46 countries and colonies that connected all continents and almost all oceans. His huge seaplanes were known worldwide as Flying Cars.

Pan American World Airways began life in 1927 on a single-engine, single-route route from Key West, Florida, to Havana. From this beginning, the airline that will literally open up the world of aviation. Pan Am has launched more new aircraft developments than any other airline in history. She began writing routes across the world’s oceans and continents, eventually performing daily flights circling the world.

During World War II, aircraft became a decisive factor in waging war, and aviation usually made giant strides forward. Production of a small aircraft has increased significantly. Before World War II, the aviation industry employed about 193,000 people, and in 1941 their number increased to 450,000; At that time, 18 American airlines carried about 3,375,000 passengers, which is about 1 million more than in 1940. Air mail and express cargo also increased by nearly 30 percent. But by the end of World War II, the new flight line would take the form of a jet and a jet plane.

After World War II and until 1947, all the basic technologies needed for aviation were developed; Ordering a jet engine, aerodynamics, radar, etc. Orders for civilian aircraft rose sharply from 6,444 in 1941 to 40,000 by the end of 1945. One of the minor military contractors was Boeing, which later became the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer. With all the new technology developed at this time, airliners were larger, faster and they had pressurized cabins. New aerodynamic designs, metals and power plants will lead to high-speed turbojet aircraft. Later, these aircraft will be able to fly supersonically and regularly make transoceanic flights.

One of the most famous record flights in aviation around this time was Voyager, developed by Burt Rutan. The flight, maintaining an average speed of 115.8 mph (186.3 km / h), lasted 9 days, 3 minutes, 44 seconds and flew 25,012 miles (40,254 km) and was completed in December 1986.

Lessons – Flight 401 Disaster

CRM abbreviations are commonly understood as customer relationship management. However, this means that in the aviation world crew management. The performance of a commercial aircraft flight from one airport to another is comparable to a project; it has a start date (departure), an end date (arrival date) and provides a unique product or service, namely the safe transport of passengers to their destination. CRM became a hot topic and an important discipline in the aviation industry after the crash of 401 Eastern Airlines flight to the Florida Everglades in 1972. The TV show “Maiday” told the story of this tragedy quite recently, and I think the lesson of the aviation industry is one that can be applied to the profession of project manager.

Flight 401 took off from JFK in New York City in Miami on the night of December 29, 1972. The aircraft was a Lockheed L1011-Tristar, which is modern at the time. The flight was led by Captain Robert Albin Loft, and included pilot-engineer Donald Louis Repo and pilot Albert John Stockstyle. In addition to the staff crew were Warren Terry, the pilot, and Angela Donadea, a maintenance specialist. The latter were “dead” in Miami. The dead end is airline slang, where you can travel for free to return to your home base. The pilot had 32 years of experience flying east, and the engineer had 25 years of experience. Although the pilot had much less experience than Loft, he had more experience with the L1011 and previous flight experience in the Air Force. It was the team that controlled the cabin.

Flight 401 received permission to take the tower at 9:20 p.m. that night and headed south over Norfolk, Virginia, then over Wilmington, North Carolina, and then out to sea for the remainder of the flight. The aircraft’s navigation system would lead the plane to the Barricade point over the Atlantic, and then it would start turning west over West Palm Beach and then south to Miami. Shortly after takeoff, Warren Terry decided to move from the cockpit to a vacant seat in first class, which left Angela Danadeo a lone “dead head” in the cabin. Captain Stockstill flew the plane while pilot Loft operated the radio. It was a standard procedure for the East and became the way it gave its pilots the flight experience.

East Flight 401 arrived at Miami Airport around 11:20 p.m., following National Airline Flight 607. The national plane was directed to land on runway 9, right leaving runway 9 to the right on the east plane. Before boarding Flight 607, the crew of the radio station knew that they had problems with landing in the nose of the aircraft and had to deploy it manually. They also asked that fire engines be ready for landing at the airport if they had any problems.

When it was the turn of flight 401, a few minutes later the signal lamp for their nose failed to turn on. Stockstyle asked Loft if he wanted to spin until the problem was fixed. After talking to the dispatcher, Loft instructed him to circle. When Stockstill asks about diverting the chassis, Loft instructs him to leave it down and then presses the throttle valves to compensate for the extra drag. Loft did so even though Stockstyle was still flying the plane.

The problem light was on the side of the pilots of the plane, but Stockstyle was unable to reach the light as he was still flying the plane. The tower instructed Flight 401 to turn north and then west on a route that would carry them through the Florida Everglades. The plane reached an altitude of 2,000 feet and then leveled off. Loft instructed Stockstill to land the plane on autopilot and then try to retrieve the light bulb so it could be replaced. Stockstill got the light on the panel and gave it to Repo so he could replace the light bulb. Donadeo witnessed the deal but says he did not see Repa replace the spare bulb. Repo tries to replace the panel, but inserts it on the side so that the light still does not work. Loft orders Repo to inspect the landing gear visually from a small compartment under the flight that passes through the trap door. As Repo disappears into “hell,” Stockstill is now struggling to remove the panel without success. Cab recordings record a conversation that shows Loft’s frustration with the wrong light, and the rest of the crew’s laughter shows that at the moment no one takes the incident seriously. Stockstill is still trying to retrieve the panel.

At this point, the dictaphone sounds a height warning, but Loft and Stockstill are still fully focused on the chassis light. Their discussion completely ignores the warning and focuses on the light, the likelihood that it just burned out, and their confidence that the transmission carrier is omitted at this point. The turnip appears through the door of the trap and announces that it does not see whether the gear is coming down or not. Loft directs him to try again. Meanwhile, the Stockstill has one hand on the steering oppression, which also controls the height of the plane, controlling the angle of the flap, and one hand on the panel that holds the light. Danadeo testifies to this when he moves into the bay to help Repa. A tape is heard on the tape recorder telling Loft that something has happened to the height. Loft’s last words: “Hey, what’s going on here?”

At this point, Flight 401 disappears from the radar screen of the controller. The hail from the dispatcher to the plane is not responding. The plane crashed into the Florida Everglades about 18 miles northwest of Miami. He hit the swamp at a speed of about 220 miles per hour and slid 1/3 mile, breaking into 5 pieces before finally calming down. Out of a total of 176 passengers and a crew of 103, the crash killed 103. Due to the rapid response time and heroic efforts of an aircraft operator named Robert Marquis, who happened to be at the scene, and the Coast Guard rescued 73 passengers from the swamp.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is responsible for investigating all air accidents. Naturally more attention is paid to the investigation of accidents in which lives are lost, like the crash of “Flight 401”, and the NTSB has brought all its significant resources and experience to this disaster. Their investigation began at the crash site, and they found the control panel almost completely undamaged, so they were able to determine the exact time of the fall (11:42 p.m.) so that the panel containing the nasal transporter indicators was clogged sideways in her dishes and that the two light bulbs did burn . Using a dictaphone, they were able to determine that the plane’s speed was 198 knots when the plan crashed and the throttles were in full upright position, suggesting that the crew may have realized their situation at the last minute and tried to lift the plan. The NTSB also assisted Angela Danadeo, who survived the disaster.

Through the cabin registrar, physical evidence and testimony of Danade NTSB were able to recover the accident. The plane approached the landing and deployed the landing gear. The nasal transmission indicator does not light up, which may indicate that the nasal transmission is not deployed or the light is not working properly. The Flight Tower orders them to move on their way through the perpetual fruit and maintain an altitude of 2,000 feet, while Loft orders the Rap to visually inspect the landing gear. Okay so far. Next, Loft informs Stockstill (which has control of the aircraft) to turn on autopilot. The plane maintains its altitude, then drops 100 feet, leveled and maintains that altitude for 2 minutes. After that, the plan begins a gradual descent. This descent is so gradual that the crew does not notice, and after 70 seconds the plane lost only 250 altitudes. 250 feet is enough to trigger warnings that are well heard on the dictaphone, but have been ignored by cabin staff who are completely focused on trying to replace the burned-out indicator lights.

The speed of the descent, which began so gradually, is gaining momentum. Another 50 seconds and the plane drops below 101 feet, which triggers another alarm that the crew notices, but so far the plane is sinking at 50 feet per second. Stockstill responds by giving the plane full throttle, but corrective action is too late and the plane falls.

The autopilot is turned on by two switches on the control panel, but you can turn it off by pressing the control column (or oppression). The NTSB believes that when Loft turned to Rap to order him to visually inspect his nose, he accidentally turned off the autopilot by clicking on the column. At this point, the autopilot does not turn off completely, but will maintain the independence of the altitude that the pilot selects forward by pushing forward on the column. Accidental strikes against the column explain the further descent of the aircraft.

The NTSB report recommends a number of technical improvements that could prevent the tragedy. The visual inspection device in the inspection department proved to be too complicated to operate. Turnips contributed to the confusion in the cabin. The board recommended changing the device so that it worked with one person (the pilot had to switch the light on which the overhead was located, and Loft did not testify to this). The altitude warning system sounds once and then flashes orange. At altitudes above 2,500 feet this light flashes continuously, below 2,500 feet it flashes only once. The board recommended flashing constantly at any height. The NTSB report noted the attention the cabin staff focused on the burned-out lights, but at the time there were no further recommendations. Subsequent incidents in which a pilot and / or crew error resulted in a crash or imminent crash caused the creation of Crew Resource Management (CRM) and a mini-industry emerged to teach pilots to maintain control over their crew and aircraft.

By this time you will be asking yourself, “in what in the world is all this related to me or any other project manager?” In a nutshell, the answer is this: the same lack of emphasis on the part of the leader that led to the 401 plane crash could lead to the collapse of the project. Project managers can learn some lessons from this tragedy and use some of their own CRM management strategies.

What stands out most about this tragedy is the attention of the entire crew of the cockpit of this plane, including the pilot, on two burnt out light bulbs: the total cost is 12 dollars. The cost of insufficient attention on the plane’s flight: the plane is $ 15 million plus 103 lives. The lesson is clear; the project manager cannot lose focus on the overall goals and objectives of the project due to the abandonment of a minor task or for its implementation. The pilot on the aircraft is jointly responsible for the success of the flight and the safety of the passengers and crew. The project manager has overall responsibility for the success of the project, although the responsibility rarely extends to personal safety. The pilot owns the cockpit crew team and is responsible for the task of that crew so that the aircraft reaches its destination safely. The pilot cannot afford to escape this responsibility because the crew is struggling to solve a relatively minor technical problem. As it turned out, the landing gear dropped, and the plane could land safely. The crew either knew about it, or strongly suspected it, as they studied ways to change the light bulbs. Had Loft appointed a replacement for Stockstyle or Donade’s light bulbs (he was engaged in Loft), he could have focused on the flight of the plane and prevented the crash.

Project managers must take responsibility for fulfilling the overall goals and objectives of the project. This means that if the build doesn’t work, or problem reports are mounted, or a new app doesn’t meet performance expectations, we can’t be so confused in fixing the situation that we lose sight of the overall project. We must use wisely the resources that are given to us to achieve the goals of the project. Assign reasons for rejection to someone on your team who has the necessary experience and knowledge, and then trust them. If you do not have such a person on your team, contact the sponsor and ask for a resource. Don’t let yourself feel responsible for solving all the problems of your project so as not to distract you from your primary responsibility: the overall success of the project.

If you ever find yourself in a position of wanting to go down into a trench and get your hands dirty by solving a technical problem that plagues your project, remember the experience of pilot Robert Loft. Don’t let stakeholders down and disrupt the project by focusing on the $ 12 portion rather than the million-dollar project.

We also know that Chromebooks and Chrome may increase the ability to share files and photos wirelessly. This would allow a nearby share to jump to AirDrop’s installation base almost overnight. The ability to share files from desktop to mobile or vice versa, file sharing will be almost effortless.
airdrops
Now one of you may be wondering if Nearby Sharing works directly with AirDrop, or at least integrated in some way. Well, as you expected, it doesn’t work, and it’s unlikely it will ever work with iOS hardware. It’s a shame, but at least if Google Chrome provides functionality, you’ll technically have better overall device compatibility anyway.

The story of the guys washing the plane, part three

When we study the history of a franchise company, we see how the company grows in the marketplace and how entrepreneurial thinkers enjoy the opportunities to provide goods and services that meet the desires of the market. In this review of the boys ’and girls’ washing history we see that the company is diversifying and finding other niches to service, some of which are actually better than the original plan. This is very common and typical of entrepreneurs from zero companies, but more and more often state regulators and rules cannot understand how real companies are. This study shows the similarity of many humble beginnings. If you look at Walt Disney, who started in the barn behind the studio, or Apple’s work in the garage, or even Bill Gates and his car counting machine, you can see how everything grows and builds, and entrepreneurs find and operate niches. Now back to our story of the guys washing the plane, part III:

After all the research Mr. Winslow decided it was time to go for it; It’s time to run a franchise campaign on your own without any venture capital. He planned to build the business the way we always did with gross proceeds. He continued to build the business by washing cars and planes, and renamed it the car wash guy. He created guys from car washes to 35 units serving 43 cities using independent contractors. In 1996, he decided to become a de facto franchise company, forming Car Wash Guys International, Inc. He could now better control consistency, color gamut, and service quality by guiding Ray Croc’s comments in his book, Grinding.

Going from aviation to automotive services, he tends to run our business strictly. In aviation it is increasingly critical than in the automotive field, but he believed that over-dealing with small details would actually be a good thing and an advantage over competitors when working with cars. During the capture of “.Com”, he changed the name to WashGuy.com and added websites for different brand names. Of course, the “Washing the Planes” guys have always been Mr. Winslow’s favorite, because that’s where he started working 27 years ago. After the successes and difficulties of exploring all the other different market segments for Team Wash Guys, it was great to offer Air Wash Wash Guys as a completely separate franchise module to those aviation people who would like to own their own business.

The guys wash cars, trucks, boats, concrete and more, and as you probably know, washing planes requires different training, soap, equipment, and wastewater recovery for environmental reasons. The FAA will borrow money to improve aircraft if airports do not comply with strict environmental laws. It is for this reason that Mr. Winslow is so active in helping the team meet environmental requirements and sharing his expertise with government agencies involved in developing BMPs for the aviation industry.

In 1997, Lance Winslow met and hired Arthur Dickey, the creator of Tidy Plane, to work in product development. Try a better product called Dry Wash, using gas as the active ingredient. The tamed car tried to put Tidy Plane on the market, but without Arthur’s devotion it failed. Arthur helped the company design the labels and with the help of his pharmacist developed the best products safe for the aviation industry that actually work from Lance’s garage. Arthur was one of the original Tidy Car franchises, his dad once owned a small airline in Los Angeles that flew planes, and later was one of the most popular mailbox franchises, etc. The tidy car forced Arthur to stop his Tidy Plan Concept, using a franchise clause that felt it didn’t work with their brand. A decade later Tidy Car sold this brand to Ziebart. Arthur’s brother ran the “Tidy Car” franchise and did a lot of aircraft washing for aircraft customers in Florida. Arthur was hired by the founder of the super-charger Paxton, and the Paxton Racing team, after he developed his super-wax brand for sale at Wal-Mart and the Pep Boys, after Arthur left the brand, never reached full potential. Arthur with all this knowledge allowed us to easily meet all the requirements of MSDS. Arthur after developing the company’s product line moved on to exploring other possibilities and continued his fascination with the Dry Wash Concept and together with a friend convinced Fed X to exclusively use it in many markets and he set up a network of operators with some partners using his new blend.

In 2000, Mr. Winslow gave notice to all the guys at the car wash, saying they were forbidden to wash planes because of potential negative PR in newspapers if they got dirty, and insurance requirements and equipment were not appropriate in case of damage, and UFOC for The guys at the car wash didn’t deal with these issues, and those independent contractor contracts were 10 years old. That was the main dilemma. So the team gathered to create a set of training videos, upgrade equipment so the team could retain aviation customers and enforce laws. Several franchisees with the car wash guys performed and washed the planes. It was found that the aviation market was not satisfactory, so we switched to a full-scale franchise system. It has been observed that the FBA, Flying Schools and especially the market for small jets have really taken off. This allowed the guys at the car wash to sign airplane washing agreements or in some cases when they bought specialized equipment and made oral contracts.

Then when we started going, the FTC hurt many of our franchisees by attacking car washes and then other terrorists aged 9-11 almost dealt a deadly blow to General General aviation, but the people from aviation are tough as they come and today the market sector bounces. Lance has often wondered who is worse than government regulators of terrorist regulators or Osama bin Laden’s own company?

Mr. Winslow is always fascinated by flight and aviation. His father was a decorated naval pilot who flew in Squadron 8 Puerto Rico during the Cuban Missile Crisis, 250 combat missions A-4, later CO Naval Squadron (A-7 Corsair II), later a Navy captain, later and the airline pilot (737, 727, DC-10, 747, 777, 757), after retirement, is currently flying in a Gulfstream corporate aircraft. Mr. Winslow’s dad wants him to be able to fly an F-18 in the sandbox now. Mr. Winslow’s grandfather was the head of the FAA at Fresno International Airport and flew in a B-24 aircraft, and his step grandfather flew in a flying fortress B-17), and his other grandfather built the first gyroscope with a laser ring, which is now used as a guidance system. aviation, marine and space industries. It’s in my blood. Lance Winslow’s brother is a pilot of the S-130 command of the US Marines stationed outside Miromar.

Today, the Aircraft Wash Guys team washes in Aviation Millionaires, Executive Jet, etc., as well as companies such as Raytheon, Cessna and others. They have washed jets at Little Rock Arkansas, Scottsdale, Aesterpark AK, Colorado Springs, Bozeman, MK, Columbus, California, Van Nuys, California and many other airports across the country. Targets today include 35 guys washing planes in 2007 and 50 by 2009 and 100 by 2011. Ambitious, big times, and can they do it? What they think is possible, time will tell. They have competition in the industry, as in any business, not so much, but they plan to do whatever it takes and remain the leading advantage.

If you study any service franchise in the United States or in the aviation sector of any great company, you will see that they all came from the most humble beginnings, mistakes made; had to fight government regulators and competitors and pressured to succeed. Of all the great names in aviation that hang on the wall in museums across the country, such as the Museo Wichita Aviation, the Wright Patterson Aviation Museum or even the Smithsonian, you see the misfortunes that make this industry and this country wonderful. Recently, Bert Rutan made such a comment in Congress during his testimony about the birth of the private space industry. America is great, but we have to go out and take risks if we want to stay on top.
